Le Castor Freegan
The Castor Freegan is a Unipoly pole aimed at reusing unsold goods from supermarkets through collective meals between students and free distribution of fruit and vegetables as well as bread and pastries.
We have a partnership with two of the region’s MMM Migros (the Crissier and Romanel Migros), enabling us to collect unsold food on the mornings of our opening days. We use this unsold food for three main event formats:
Distributions
Unsold items are sorted and made available to students free of charge, usually on the EPFL campus (in front of the Unipoly premises) or at the Vortex (in the Maison de la Durabilité (MD)).
Discosoups
Unsold food is sorted directly at the MD. The idea is to collectively cook as many dishes as possible using unsold food over the course of the afternoon. The event is open to all, and everyone is free to participate to the extent of their availability. At the end, everyone eats together at the MD and then helps to tidy up. This event can be used for internal cohesion or recruitment.
Meals at Rolex and Esplanade or at Unil
Meals at the Rolex/ l’Esplanade are our most costly events in terms of time and logistics, and take place in collaboration with EPFL catering managed by Mr. Rossignol. Meals at Unil are also prepared with leftovers, at the MD and then served on the Unil campus.
